Teeth whitening is big business at the moment, and some people are willing to spend hundreds or even thousands of pounds to achieve a perfect pearly white smile. But there has been a huge increase in the number of whitening toothpastes you can buy online and in supermarkets here in the UK, and more people are choosing to whiten their teeth at home rather than head to an expensive studio. We thought it would be useful to round up the best whitening toothpastes you can buy in the UK at the moment, let's take a look:
Oral B 3D White Perfection
Oral B is perhaps best known as an electric toothbrush brand, but their range of whitening toothpaste is actually really great. In fact, the 3D White Luxe Perfection toothpaste from Oral B was one of the only whitening toothpastes that we found which actually showed a significant increase in whiteness after the first use in a clinical trial, which you can read here.
This toothpaste has a very fancy name (and a special shiny box), but it's what is inside the tube that really impressed us. Oral B claims that this toothpaste can remove up to 100% of surface stains in only 3 days, and on top of this it can prevent new stains from appearing. This is one of the most expensive whitening toothpastes we found in Boots at £5, but it definitely has the goods to back up the price. Learn more and buy it here - boots.com
Colgate Advanced White Charcoal
Colgate is probably the biggest toothpaste brand in the UK, and unsurprisingly, the brand has released some excellent whitening toothpastes. We're big fans of their Advanced White Charcoal toothpaste, as there is a lot of evidence to suggest that charcoal can be really effective for teeth whitening. The promise on the front of the Colgate box is "whiter teeth in 10 days", but we'd recommend brushing with this toothpaste morning and night for at least a month before deciding whether or not it is working. Arm & Hammer Charcoal White
Arm & Hammer is a brand which is well-known for including baking soda in almost all of its products, but this whitening toothpaste from the brand takes it up a notch by combining baking soda with charcoal. According to the brand, with regular use (morning and night) this toothpaste can provide a whiter smile in just 3 days. It's a bold claim, but this is definitely a popular product. One thing we actually really like about this toothpaste but which we imagine some people won't like is the gritty feeling of it - it's a low abrasion toothpaste so you won't do damage to your teeth, but it does feel satisfying to use. Colgate Deep Clean Whitening
We've already mentioned that Colgate is one of the biggest toothpaste brands in the UK, so we had to include a 2nd of their toothpastes in this list. The Colgate Deep Cleaning Whitening product uses baking soda to naturally remove stains from your teeth, which gives your teeth a satisfying tingling feeling as you use it. Because this toothpaste contains baking soda, it has a slightly more bitter taste than most normal toothpastes you'll find, but if you're keen on whitening your teeth then you probably won't mind this too much. Macleans Whitening
What's interesting about the Macleans Whitening toothpaste is that the brand claims that after use, it leaves an invisible barrier behind which can help to prevent staining even after use. The toothpaste also helps to re-mineralise your teeth, which will help them to appear whiter. We noticed that this toothpaste was about £1 cheaper than most of the other whitening toothpastes we tried. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com
Sensodyne Gentle Whitening
So far, some of the toothpastes we've included in this list might have sounded a bit scary in terms of how they actually remove the stains from your teeth. So if you're looking for something a bit less intense, the Sensodyne Gentle Whitening toothpaste is probably a good choice to go for. Sensodyne doesn't claim that this toothpaste will whiten your teeth in a matter of days, but they do say that you should notice results within a month. Plus, you get the added bonus of sensitivity relief. Learn more and buy this toothpaste here - boots.com
Macleans White & Shine
The Macleans White & Shine toothpaste was the cheapest whitening toothpaste we could find, at under £1. It's a bit of a no-frills toothpaste, and Macleans doesn't make any big claims about how white this toothpaste will make your teeth. But this is a very highly rated toothpaste online, and we were certainly impressed by it. Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk
So hopefully you try one of the whitening toothpastes we've recommended above! If you do, please let us know about your experience in the comments!
